30 Years of Freedom in Business

… that was the name of the celebratory evening which the Czech Chamber of Commerce organized on November 13th, 2019, at the Malostranská Beseda restaurant to commemorate the 30 year anniversary of the Velvet Revolution. The President of the Czech Chamber of Commerce, Vladimír Dlouhý, invited guests who were present at key moments of the 1989 Revolution and were involved in formatting the social, business, and political environment of the 1990s. These guests included former president of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus and leading Czech economists Ivan Kočárník and Dušan Tříska. Karel Codl and Antonín Novák took part in the event representing Felix a spol., a legal partner of the Czech Chamber of Commerce. The past three decades posed a fundamental change to Czech businesses in the form of a free market economy, the re-birth of traditional Czech brands, and the founding of new companies of which some became important representatives of their fields. Our, then-small, law firm became a renowned company with a comprehensive portfolio of services and international reach. Karel Codl added: “I like reminiscing about 1989 and the subsequent fundamental change throughout the 90s when, along with my colleagues Novák, Roubal, and Felix, I participated as part of the legal division of Komerční banka in creating laws and regulations for the Czech banking sector. Later, we dedicated ourselves fully to practicing law. In 1991, we founded our legal firm, which will soon celebrate 30 years of successful work on the Czech legal market.”
